Project week at Hermann Löns School on the topic of "Health and exercise"

This week, the 190 or so children at Hermann Löns School focused on the important areas of healthy eating and exercise. This year's project week focused on the major topic of health across all subjects and outside of any standardized timetable.

Every day, all children and teachers started in the schoolyard with the "Sportinator" to actively get into the mood for the content. The school morning was filled with exercise games and sporting activities in the school, in the schoolyard and in the sports hall. We cooked and baked healthy food. The children were able to blindly taste fruit and vegetables, which have been part of the daily breakfast for years thanks to the EU school fruit program, put together fruit salads or fruit skewers and taste and enjoy them in muesli during the joint breakfast breaks. The contents of the food pyramid and its importance, the structure of the body, getting to know some relaxation exercises such as yoga and many activities on the subject of "dental health" with the support of the Borken district's dental health working group were just some of the components of this very active week. A fitting interruption was provided on Wednesday by the ceremonial presentation of the German Sports Badges, which Mr. Mikus from Sparkasse presented to the proud athletes from Years 2, 3 and 4. The worthy conclusion to this project week was the annual sports and games festival on Friday morning, which was organized with the help of many parents. The awareness of one's own body and the responsibility to stay healthy and do something about it was established and strengthened in all children during this time. Everyone involved was able to take away many ideas from this week for their "normal" lessons in order to stay healthy and active throughout the school year.
